Privacy policy
In short: Wombat Sums collects no data. It has no accounts, ads, analytics or tracking, and no servers of its own. Your children's profiles and progress stay on your iPhone or iPad. The app only goes online to buy or restore the unlock, and Apple handles that.
Who we are
Wombat Sums (“the app”) is a maths game for children aged 4 to 6, made by Australian Apps (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what data the app handles. It's written for parents and carers.
What stays on your device
The app keeps the following on your iPhone or iPad only. We never receive any of it, and neither does anyone else.
- For each child, up to 3: the animal they picked, and a nickname if you add one.
- Their progress: the stars they've won on each level, their stickers, the tile design they chose, and how they answered each sum (right the first time, after a slip or with a hint, and how long recent answers took). The game uses this to bring back tricky sums, set the speed of the tiles, and fill in the Progress tab.
- Minutes played each day, kept for 30 days, for the daily play limit and the Progress tab.
- Your settings: sound, voice, the daily play limit, reduce motion and open all levels.
- Whether the unlock has been bought, so it works offline.
If you back up your device to iCloud or a computer, this data can be included in that backup; your backup settings control that.
What we don't collect
We don't run accounts, analytics, crash reporting, advertising or servers of our own, and the app has no third-party analytics, advertising or tracking software in it. It asks for no permissions: no camera, microphone, location, contacts, photos or notifications, and it never asks to track you. A nickname is optional and never leaves the device.
If you've chosen to share analytics with app developers in your device's settings, Apple may give us anonymous crash reports and usage statistics. Apple's Privacy Policy applies to those.
The internet
The app makes no internet connections of its own, and everything in it works offline. The one exception is Apple's in-app purchase system, which shows the unlock's price and handles buying and restoring it. Apple runs that connection, and nothing passes through us.
Links out of the app
The parent area's About tab links to this privacy policy, our support page and the App Store page for rating the app. Each link sits behind the parental gate and opens outside the app, in Safari or the App Store. Our website privacy notice covers our website.
Purchases: Apple
The unlock is a one-time purchase through the App Store, made by a grown-up behind the parental gate. Apple handles the payment; we never see your payment details or your Apple Account. The app checks the purchase on the device with Apple's StoreKit. If you use Family Sharing, Apple shares the purchase with your family group. Apple's Privacy Policy applies to purchases.
Children
Wombat Sums is made for children and is in the App Store's Kids Category. It follows Apple's rules for that category: no ads, no third-party analytics, and a parental gate in front of the parent area, purchases and every link out of the app. The gate asks a times-table question, written out in words, that young children can't answer.
We don't collect personal information from children, as the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and other privacy laws define it. Nothing your child enters or does in the app is sent to us or to anyone else, so there's nothing on our side to ask your consent for, show you or delete.
Keeping and deleting your data
- Delete a child: in the parent area, open Settings, tap the child, then Delete child. Their animal, nickname, stars, stickers and progress are removed from the device. It's there when you have 2 or 3 children; the last child stays until you delete the app.
- Reset progress: Settings › tap the child › Reset progress. Stars, stickers, tile designs and the history of their answers go back to the start. Their animal, nickname and minutes played stay.
- To change or remove a nickname, tap the child in Settings and edit it.
- Deleting the app removes all of its data from your device.
We hold no personal data about you or your children, so there is nothing on our side to delete. If you contact us through the contact form on our website, we use your name, email address and message only to reply, and we delete them on request. Your message reaches us through a form service, as our website privacy notice explains.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete your personal data, or to complain to a privacy regulator. Contact us with any question, and we'll help.
Australian Privacy Principles
We've written this policy with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) in mind, and we handle any personal information you send us, such as a message, as this policy describes. If you have a concern about how we've handled your information, contact us first. If you're not satisfied with our response, or you haven't heard back within 30 days, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Changes to this policy
If the app's data practices change, we'll update this page and its effective date.
